Still life Photography: Chang Ki Chung is a fashion photographer in the advertising departments of a Korean group companys such as Amore Pacific and Cheil Communication. He opened in 1987 in Seoul his photography studio and in 1990, his reputation won him the official photographer post for the Korean Republic President, Mr. Roe.
In 1993 Chang Ki Chung moved away from Seoul, began living in the countryside, and devoted himself to the photography style that he found inspiring and became a photographer. He admires, Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, working in black and white art photography.
Between 1993 and 2009 his inspiration was the lifestyle photography and he produced two still life series belonging to the botanic genre, and one of the everyday, familiar objects. In 1999, he took color photographs, as his new study this time of the wild flowers, he brought back from his walks, wishing to grant them a second life.
Chang Ki Chung for the first time, produced outdoors series in white and black, featuring the setting with Korean west coast. From 2003 to 2005, he went to morning pilgrimages to watch and an invisible road appears in the morning fog and disappears against the ocean, was worth watching and was impenetrable as our lives paths take.
In 2006, a new source of inspiration was as he photographed. From 2007 to 2008, in his garden the bright red of a poppy prompted the two new series beginning, “Poppy 1 and 2.” they were genuine portraits that brought him several exhibitions, with an anthropomorphic intensity, both solo and in groups.
“Promises” this series began in 2010, in black and white, is an autobiographic journey denoting a scenography built around apple, the fruit of knowledge. Chang ki Chung, from 1988 to 2003 was at the Seoul Institute of the Arts as Professor of Photography, and from 2000 to 2007, he was at the Sangmyung University in Seoul teaching as a Master of the Photographic Art. He as a photographer knows to control lights and to render the plant life or objects as magnificent.
He offers a balance of his visual exploration in the figurative and literal sense. He builds and photographs delicate towers of vegetables, fruit, plants and bread, bringing together their varying sizes and shapes to form stunning still life photography.
