Daria began photographing as a young student. She also began learning fashion portraiture. She loved photographing her friends and continued shooting with teaching, while doing other jobs after graduating, let alone she decided photography is the thing making her happy. Fashion is her favorite shoot and she loves experimenting different styles and techniques. It is the attraction that drew her to creating cinemagraphs.
Daria’s work is celebrated around the globe by artists. Especially her Kitchen Ghosts cinemagraphs made a special place in the art world. Daria created cinemagraphs after seeing a tutorial. Cinemagraph is about spotting a moment that is truly exciting and making you search the same unexpected moment. It brings a calming feel and some satisfaction.
Kitchen Ghosts is her food blog and Daria says this website name also was undecided and they came upon it as the first iteration. Daria was looking for a vacation and took a long break from her portrait shoots. Her second shooter and friend is a mom, Olga, who is also a good cook. Kitchen Ghosts, like all other great ideas began on a whim. It grew into something that they both did not imagine. The thought began with Dariya reaching Olga’s house to shoot her preparing lunch and to create cinemagraphs of it. The results were stunning and they loved to continue.
Dariya and Olga were highly inspired by the recipes. It became a procedure for Olga to cook something good, and to invite Dariya for lunch, to shoot and eat. The emotion added by Dariya to the cinemagrph act as a part of the recipe and as the finished piece. Dariya and Olga made everything look good, it may be anything Daria’s ability of capturing and presenting the art or Olga’s charm, it was stirring any viewer.
The project Kitchen Ghosts is about little precious moments of food and drinks captured and looped in live photographs. The project is loved by several brands leading to collaborations with Martell, Amazon, Pepsi, Blue Angel Codka, Samsung, and many others. Daria, the Moscow- based photographer did not guess the outcome of their collaboration.
Olga describes it as explosion of creativity. She was trying to do something so that she got time with her four year-old son to spend time. Olga came up with honeysuckle cheesecake to French toast. All these were filmed using a tripod, edited adding after effects and Photoshop that it took to step-by-step cinemagraphs, as a single move of the picture.
Daria says she believes in cinemagraphs and hopes to form new hybrid photography. With technology and time, cinemagraphs will grow is her strong belief. Daria is highly excited to embrace cinemagraphs and she finds the GIF format outdated. She likes the Flixel cinemagraph and soon it will appear on most platforms.
